PSHE
We use Jigsaw to teach the PSHE curriculum at Forge Wood Primary School. Each year group have a jigsaw character piece that helps them with their learning. Every half term, the children focus on one aspect of the PSHE curriculum as a whole school approach, at an age appropriate level.
In the Autumn term, children learn about being them, their feelings and those of others. It is our intent for children to understand that everyone is unique and that diversity should be celebrated and respected by everyone.
In the Spring term, children discuss their dreams and goals. This includes setting aspirations for themselves and learning how they can contribute to the school community and as a citizen of society. During the second half of the spring term, children focus on being healthy. This includes learning about being healthy, having a positive self - esteem and about making healthy choice in life.
In the summer term, Children learn about relationships and about changes. This includes discussing a range of relationships that are important to the children and what it takes to create positive relationships. Children also learn about conflict resolution and communication skills. During this term, Children participate in sex education which includes naming parts of the body and discussions about how their bodies change as they grow up. This is taught at an age appropriate level and in a sensitive manner.
